We all want to fall asleep at the end of a long day. But sometimes it’s more difficult than we think. You know the basics of sleep aids like herbal tea, avoiding your smartphone and counting livestock, but there are more.

I am exhausted after a long day at work, blogging, cooking, exercising, and being a functioning adult. I need to get the best sleep possible to fall asleep faster and stay asleep.

Love Your Bed

Although I have always loved white bedding, I couldn’t shake the sound of my mother’s voice telling me to “Don’t get it white!” It will get dirty!” My mom is right about everything. This time, I chose to forge my path.

White bedding is my favorite. It makes me feel calm and relaxed after a hard day. I would recommend avoiding bright patterns and prints unless you are particularly drawn to them. Instead, choose something more mellow and comfortable to put on your bed.

Aromatherapy is your friend

This tip was given to me by our Paris hotel. I loved the “night spray” they left at our bedside. I was so impressed with the service that they gave me theirs to take home.

It’s a good idea to spray it before we go to bed at night so that it doesn’t overwhelm us when we return home in the morning. You can use any linen spray, but you should choose one that is relaxing, like lavender or eucalyptus.

Opt For Mood Lighting

You can swap the bright lights of the PM for a soft lamp by your bedside. Although I have a habit of working in bed, we turn off overhead lights so that I can use the soft yellow lamp.

According to studies, you should avoid exposure to blue light for at least four hours before bed. This is a little too optimistic, given how dependent we all are on our phones. However, turning on night mode and a lamp may be worth it.

If you have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, switching rooms to charge your phone might be worth it. This will help you resist the temptation to grab your phone.

Grab a Book

Reading a boring book is the best way to fall asleep. Ask your high school self about how you slept at night before taking your AP World History exam. Okay. Choose a book you have heard great things about.

Pro tip: Avoid choosing anything you have been dying to read. The goal is to make us feel sleepy, but you might enjoy it.

Get ready for bed

Do not wait until you’re ready to get out of bed to wash your face and remove your makeup. So that you have time to relax, make a habit of washing your face and brushing your teeth before going to bed.

Keep it Cold

This is a clear reason for my marriage. However, my husband loves it cold, so we keep a fan on low in our bedroom all year. This means I have become accustomed to the white noise, cuddling under the covers, and the sound of the fan.
